The Atlantic Salmon
The Atlantic Salmon is the most noble representative of salmonids (Salmonidae). The geographical range of this fish is Europe’s coastal waters of the White Sea through the North Sea and the Baltic and northern Portugal. It spends most of its life in the sea, for a period of reproduction it flows into rivers to spawn. During the spawning migration salmon instinctively returns to the place where it was born. Some of them die after initial spawning. The Salmon is a predator. The juveniles living in the rivers feed small aquatic organisms but sea food of adult salmon are mainly fish. The population of wild Salmon in Europe is rapidly decreasing. The biggest threat to fish is fencing off rivers, where they ascend to spawn and pollution.
