A Mustad product that should not be ignored is its brilliant Steel For Teeth wire trace. Since it first came on the market, it has caused many anglers to look at wire in a new light. We speculated that it would become a viable alternative to heavy mono traces for lure fishing and several anglers have used it successfully in that way. But there’s much more to it than that.

Steel For Teeth wire traces have two noteworthy features: (i) the super-thin 49-strand stainless wire used in the manufacture is incredibly flexible; and (ii) the traces have a neat, compact loop at each end, allowing anglers to attach hooks, swivels, rings and clips that suit the occasion. This system allows quick and easy change of attachments.
When you’ve laboured with conventional wire for so many years, you appreciate the value of this product. With Steel For Teeth, you’re not obliged to accept pre-attached clips and rings and you don’t need crimps to make an attachment. And if you don’t want to use the loop provided, you can cut it off and just use a knot, because Steel For Teeth is highly knottable. You can, for example, snell hooks directly onto the Steel For

multi-hook gangs.
Steel for Teeth is not your average multi-strand wire. It’s water resistance is very low which is why lures rigged on Steel For Teeth wire dive deeper and swim more vigorously than their counterparts rigged on heavy monofilament or lesser varieties of wire. And Steel For Teeth is so flexible, thin and easily workable that, for many rigs, it offers a better alternative than monofilament, even where tooth-proof rigging is not required. Wire-based rigs need no longer be a last resort.

Mustad Steel For Teeth wire traces (ref. No. 77366) are expertly assembled in Mustad’s own terminal tackle assembly plant. The loops are secured by manual whipping over the join with fine wire. Available in lengths of 40cm and 80cm in breaking strains of 4, 6, 9 and 12kg
